Today was Cory's conditioning class for one hour. We worked on pushes, whips and starts as well as general conditioning. My thoughts are as follows:
I let another woman pass me in warm ups and as she went by I thought "that's OK, she skates with a league." It's not OK! I'm faster than lots of league skaters and I totally could have stayed with her with just a little more effort.
My starts are improving. I know that I need to work more on focusing my energy and weight forward rather than spending so much energy putting all my weight on one foot and then the other. Cory says to focus on keeping low and pushing your feet out behind you. I've never thought of starts like that before.
My campaign to improve on turn around toe stops continues. Like Zoolander, I find I can't transition left. I fixed that problem on the right side by considering it my only option for stopping for several weeks and I'm hoping the strategy will work equally well on the left side. Stay tuned.
X-Training:
15 minutes of core
30 X 2 pushups
12 X 3 each Lunges (aided by the Thompson Orchestral Audition Repertoire for Horn: Comprehensive and Unabridged), Fire Hydrants, Cheerleaders, Side Kicks, and the thing where you're on your hands and knees and you extend one leg backwards.
5 X 30 second 'Get Ups' (while wearing skates, one knee down, other knee down, stand up without hands on the floor. How many can you do in 30 seconds?) on 1 minute rest (14, 16, 15, 17, 17)
