The Skate Report 1/5/2012

FIRST SCRIMMAGE EVER!!!
...it was like the first day of school
Pro:  I only had to sit in the box once!
Con:  It was while I was jamming for a rule I didn't know existed
Pro:  My balance has improved vastly.  I only ate it a couple of times and managed to recover from several near falls.  Thank you balance board.
Pro:  Several people commented that I worked like hell when trapped.  Persistence is one of my best traits in life so I'm glad it's come over for this.
Con:  I was not very successful in my efforts to free myself.
This is going to sound very much like I'm from Montana, but being separated from the pack when you're a blocker reminds me a lot of a rodeo event called cutting.  The goal is to separate one cow from the herd and then keep it out.  The cow desperately wants to rejoin the herd and does a little dance with the the rodeo dude/cowboy on horse/whatever you call them, trying to juke its way around.  You can practically see the panic in its poor little eyes.  I felt like that cow today.  GOAL:  Figure out how to legally bust up a wall.
Pro:  I'm pretty sure I got in the way a couple of times and maybe knocked out the opposing jammer once.
Con:  I don't think I actually managed to hit anyone and I let someone knock me around pretty well.  I sometimes (usually) forget that I'm 5'8" and not exactly tiny.  Next time she comes at me she's going to get a surprise.  When I remember to think about it, I'm hard to push around.
All in all not bad, but there's still a well of frustration sitting behind my eyes.  The solution for this must be more derby...
