In the meantime I'm proud to report that It's been 11 days since I had a beer and 16 days since I had a piece of candy or more than one cup of coffee during the day (yes, if your'e doing the math on that it means I had a little stumble in the beer category. The last two in my refrigerator were staring at me). I went back to eating food that's good for me too. Every time I decide to walk the road of prudence I remember why people do this. I sleep better and ache less. I don't get the shakes on skates anymore and I can push my body so much further than when I was routinely eating Chipotle for lunch and mac and cheese for dinner.
Still, I hate restraint. It's not in my nature. Following the simplest eating advice - don't eat when you're not hungry - is an almost physically painful task. Today has been particularly hard and it brings to mind all the wonderfully decadent things I really wish I could have without feeling like crap...
Fried Bacon dipped in Chocolate Chipotle Sauce from The Capitol Club
Bacon and chocolate are secret lovers who's affair has for some reason has only recently been discovered. They're actually still a little embarassed about it and the public at large doesn't always understand. That's OK bacon and chocolate. I'll accept your relationship for the true love that it brings to many in the world and also yourselves.
Fried Mac and Cheese Balls from the DeLuxe Bar and Grill
If mac and cheese is my favorite food, imagine how I feel about fried mac and cheese. Sometimes it can be too greasy but the DeLuxe makes that grease taste amazing and has a killer dipping sauce to boot.
Pies and Pints at... Pies and Pints
Oh Beer. Oh Pot Pie. Pies and Pints has made an art of pot pie. The crust is flaky and chewy and buttery. The fillings are perfectly flavored with rosemary, thyme, chicken, lamb, beef and joy and eating them without a nice cool carbonated malty delight just isn't the same.
Pie Milkshake at Shari's
Everyone likes pie with ice cream but it's true genius to take it to the next level and simply blend your pie into your ice cream and call it a milkshake. Apparently it's such a difficult concept that they took a year to come up with it. (Can I just mention here how awesome it is that pie milkshakes need a press release?)
All might be lost except for the fact that one of my teammates told me last weekend that I looked like I was on some sort of spa fitness program. Also, the pants I wore when I was marathoning fit comfortably again. And I've been getting faster. Got to love going faster...
